Dear Parent/Guardian,

Your son/daughter is going to participate in a busy, informative, exciting 3day-long ‘Close Up’ session of our Oklahoma Government. Your child will be well cared for and chaperoned while in program. If you have any questions about his/her safety, well-being or whereabouts, please feel free to email or call us and we will be happy to discuss your concerns. Your child will be participating and networking with other Oklahoma students as they complete activities that are aligned with Oklahoma Government.

Teacher and student participants stay at the Holiday Inn, Oklahoma City North, 6200 N. Robinson Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73118 (405-286-4777).  Oklahoma Close Up Steering Committee members and Program Instructors stay there as well. We do our best to have Male teachers/chaperones and students stay on the same floor, and female teachers/chaperones and students stay on another floor.  With the logistics of the hotel this may not be able to be accomplished.  OK Close Up also provides security that roams the floors checking on each Close Up room throughout the night.

Please contact your sponsoring teacher for your school procedures as to registering.

For the security of participants, no visitors are allowed on program or are they able to leave program. Teachers are required to bring students with them. No student participant will be permitted to use his/her own car while attending Oklahoma Close Up.  Please see your district rules for more information.

Tuition pays for lunch and dinner on Tuesday, breakfast and dinner on Wednesday (Students are required to bring lunch money for lunch on Wednesdays Shadowing Activity), every meal on Thursday through Friday’s breakfast, but students often bring spending money for special snacks. Students should dress in neat, clean school clothes, and they often bring a dressier outfit for special occasions (our banquet on Thursday night). Shadowing attire: Students are expected to dress up. Coat and tie for the men and dress or business suit for the young women. We walk a lot so comfortable shoes are helpful, along with coat and gloves being mid February. If you have any questions please contact your sponsoring teacher or, you may email us.

This is a great opportunity for your child to meet with policy makers one-on-one.  To experience exciting workgroups and breakout sessions that explores the roles of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of our state government.  These new found friendships with people from all over Oklahoma will last a life time.   We look forward to your child’s participation in this wonderful program.
